Brief History of the Foundation

Stichting voor Afghanistan (Foundation for Afghanistan ) was established in 2025 in the Hague in the Netherlands, as an independent, non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting the rights and well-being of the people of Afghanistan. The Foundation was created in response to the growing human rights and humanitarian challenges faced by Afghan society, with particular attention to women, girls, ethnic and religious minorities, and other vulnerable individuals.

Objectives of the Foundation

The Foundation pursues the following objectives:

  1. Human Rights Protection
    To support, promote, and defend human rights, particularly the rights of women, girls, children, and vulnerable ethnic and religious minorities in Afghanistan, in accordance with international human rights instruments.
  2. Education and Capacity Building
    To support formal and non-formal education, literacy programs, life skills training, and initiatives aimed at the empowerment of women and girls, as well as to provide learning opportunities for children and youth.
  3. Humanitarian Assistance
    To provide humanitarian assistance to individuals and communities in need, including livelihood support, health services, psychosocial assistance, and emergency relief.
  4. Community Empowerment
    To strengthen individual and community capacities through economic empowerment programs, support for local initiatives, and the promotion of inclusive social participation.
  5. Research, Documentation, and Advocacy
    To conduct research and document human rights violations, and to publish reports, articles, and analyses on the social and human rights situation in Afghanistan, while raising public awareness at national and international levels.
  6. Non-Profit and Non-Political Character
    To operate as an independent, non-profit, and non-political organization. The Foundation does not pursue any commercial or partisan objectives. All income and financial contributions are used exclusively to achieve the Foundation’s objectives.

Management

The Foundation is governed by a Board composed of the following members:

  1. Farukh Leqa Unchizada – Director
  2. Farid Siavash- Treasurer
  3. Somaya Frotan- Secretary

Members of the Board receive no remuneration for their services. However, they are entitled to reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

Vision

To create a just and inclusive global society in which every woman, child, and young person, particularly those living in closed or conflict-affected societies such as Afghanistan, has equal access to basic needs, quality education, and opportunities to lead and participate fully in social, economic, and political life.
The foundation envisions a world where human rights, women’s rights, and gender equality are universally respected, protected, and fulfilled.

Mission

The Stichting voor Afghanistan’s mission is to advance and safeguard human rights worldwide, with a special focus on individuals and communities living in closed, repressive, and conflict-affected societies.
Guided by the principles of equality, dignity, and justice, the foundation strives to:

  • The goal as defined in the statutes
  • The foundation’s statutory objective is
  • providing people with their basic necessities
  • building, maintaining and/or providing education for women, children and young adults
  • standing up and/or fighting for women’s rights — and women’s equality with men
  • with a focus on Afghanistan, without limiting itself to this country
  • The foundation tries to achieve this goal by, among other things,
  • providing food, water, healthcare and education
  • supporting and/or guiding women in their participation in education, the economy and a possible leadership role
  • setting up and maintaining an (online) platform for (Afghan) communities
  • conducting investigations into human rights, education, gender equality and socio-economic affairs in Afghanistan and the surrounding area
  • organising workshops, training courses, campaigns, events, activities and/or meetings
  • providing information about the activities of the foundation, including through the use of the various available forms of media
  • collaborate with various relevant organisations and institutions
  • offering advice and/or guidance
  • The foundation does not aim to make a profit.

The foundation operates as an independent, non-profit, and non-political entity, committed to promoting universal human rights and empowering vulnerable populations everywhere.
